Set up SocratiCode with Continue

Add SocratiCode as a Continue MCP server, confirm its Agent-mode tools, index one project, and verify a first search.

What you need

SocratiCode’s MCP tools are used in Continue Agent mode.

Add the MCP server

Create .continue/mcpServers/socraticode.yaml in the project:

name: SocratiCode MCP
version: 1.0.0
schema: v1
mcpServers:
  - name: SocratiCode
    type: stdio
    command: npx
    args:
      - "-y"
      - "--prefer-online"
      - socraticode@latest

Start a new Continue Agent session. Confirm SocratiCode’s tools are listed and request codebase_status to check that the server responds.

Index and verify one project

Ask Agent to run codebase_index for the project. Check codebase_status until indexing completes, then use codebase_search for a known function or feature.

Open one returned source location and confirm it belongs to the expected project. The default watcher handles later file changes while the MCP process is running.

Update the connection

After a SocratiCode release, restart or reconnect the MCP server so npx checks the current package. Start a new Agent session after reconnecting.

For sensitive projects, review source-code boundaries before indexing. For one index shared by several developers, read shared team context.
